Since 2003 Mrs Brueggemann has settled in Berlin. For several years, she served as a Member of the Boards of the German Committee for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and of the Foundation for World Population (DSW).
From 1995 to 2002 Mrs Brueggemann was Director-General of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), London. Prior to that, from 1992 to 1995, she was Chairman of the Development Policy Forum of the German Foundation for International Development in Berlin. Mrs Brueggemann can look back on a long professional career at the World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva. She entered WHO in 1966. In 1985 she became Director of External Coordination for Health and Social Development. In 1989 she was appointed the Representative of the Director-General of WHO at the United Nations, New York, USA.
While in London, she was invited to become a member of "The Rotary Club of London".
Today, she makes use of her professional experience in the fields of family planning and sexual health, especially of youths, mothers and children She has served as RFPD Vice Chair from 2011 until July of 2015, when she took on the role of Board Chair of the Rotarian Action Group for Population and Development (RFPD).
